Who Is Behind This Site?
My name is Azaz Waheed. I am a Supply Chain and ERP professional who has lived and worked in the UAE for several years. Like hundreds of thousands of expatriates here, I found myself trying to understand exactly what I was owed at the end of a contract — and quickly discovered how confusing, outdated, and unreliable most gratuity information online actually was.
After spending far too long cross-referencing MOHRE documents, asking HR colleagues, and doing the maths by hand, I decided to build the tool I wished had existed: a clear, accurate, law-aligned UAE gratuity calculator that any employee could use in seconds, for free.
That was the beginning of GratuityInUAE.com. What started as a single calculator has grown into a comprehensive UAE labour law resource covering gratuity, leave encashment, free zone rules, contract types, and employee rights across the GCC.
Important: I am not a lawyer or licensed legal adviser. GratuityInUAE.com provides general information and calculation tools for educational purposes. For legal disputes or complex employment situations, always consult a qualified UAE employment lawyer or contact MOHRE directly.
My Background and Qualifications
My professional background is in Supply Chain Management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This means I approach complex problems methodically — breaking them into clear steps, verifying against source data, and building systems that produce consistent, reliable outputs.
That same discipline is applied to every formula, example, and guide on this website:
- Every calculator formula has been manually verified against Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021
- All worked examples are cross-checked against MOHRE publications and UAE labour law commentary
- Content is updated whenever the law changes or MOHRE issues new guidance
- I read the primary legislation directly — not summaries or secondhand interpretations
Living as an expat in the UAE gives me a practical, first-hand perspective on the questions employees actually ask — the ones HR often gets wrong, and the ones that cost people real money when misunderstood.
About GratuityInUAE.com
GratuityInUAE.com launched in 2026 as a free, independent resource for UAE private sector employees, HR professionals, and business owners who need clear, reliable information about end-of-service entitlements and UAE labour law.
What the site covers:
- UAE Gratuity Calculator — instant estimates aligned with Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, covering limited and unlimited contracts, resignation, termination, and contract expiry
- Leave Encashment Calculator — calculates unused annual leave payout as part of your final settlement
- GCC Calculators — end-of-service tools for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman
- UAE Labour Law Guides — plain-English explanations of key articles, employee rights, and common disputes
- Practical how-to guides — employer disputes, free zone rules, probation, part-time work, leave encashment, and more
The site is free to use and fully independent. We are not affiliated with MOHRE, any law firm, or any employer. There are no paid placements or sponsored results. Our only goal is to make UAE labour law accessible to every worker who needs it.
How We Ensure Accuracy
Every piece of content on this site goes through the same process:
- Primary source first: All calculations and legal statements reference Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 directly, not secondary summaries or blog posts
- Manual verification: Every formula is tested against multiple hand-calculated examples before publication
- Regular review: Content is audited and updated whenever MOHRE issues new guidance or the law is amended
- Reader corrections: If a reader identifies an error, we investigate and correct it promptly. Accuracy matters more than defending old content
When we are uncertain about a legal edge case, we say so explicitly and direct readers to MOHRE or professional legal advice rather than guessing.
Why Trust This Calculator Over Others?
There are several UAE gratuity calculators online. Here is what makes ours different:
- Built directly on Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 — the current governing law, not the old 1980 Labour Law still used by many outdated tools
- Covers all mainstream scenarios: limited and unlimited contracts, resignation, termination, and contract expiry including the resignation reduction rules for unlimited contracts
- Uses basic salary only (not gross salary) — the legally correct basis under Article 51, which most calculators get wrong
- Applies the 2-year salary cap correctly
- Your data is never stored or transmitted — all calculations run in your browser
