Can You Resign Anytime in the UAE?
Yes. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, any employee can resign from their job at any time by giving the required notice period. There is no restriction on resignation for any contract type.

Notice Period on Resignation
You must give a minimum of 30 days’ notice (up to 90 days as per your contract). During this period you continue to receive full salary.

Does Resignation Reduce Gratuity Under the New Law?
No. This was the case under the old law (pre-2022), but under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, resignation no longer reduces gratuity. You receive the same full entitlement regardless of how the employment ends — as long as you have 1+ year of service.
How to Resign Properly in the UAE
- Submit a written resignation letter to your direct manager and HR, clearly stating your last working day
- Keep a copy or get email acknowledgement
- Serve your full notice period unless mutually waived
- Complete any handover documentation your employer requires
- Collect your end-of-service settlement within 14 days of your last day

Can my employer withhold my gratuity if I resign?
No. Withholding gratuity after a valid resignation is illegal. File a complaint with MOHRE immediately via mohre.gov.ae or call 800-60.
Do I need to give a reason for resigning?
No. UAE Labour Law does not require employees to provide a reason for resignation.
What if I need to resign immediately without notice?
You can resign without notice in specific circumstances defined in Article 45 of the Labour Law — such as if the employer assaults you or fails to meet contractual obligations. In these cases you retain full gratuity rights.
